How Cheese is the solution to resolving the issues with coronavirus

“How cheese is the solution to resolving the issues with coronavirus”

“We are living in unprecedented times” – how many blogs and articles have you seen that start with that phrase?

But it is very true.  And more importantly we are living through times of unprecedented change.  We are being forced to adapt and change how we do business and to embrace new ideas.  For many of us it is a complete paradigm shift – and for that a total change of mindset may be needed.

Change is always inevitable.  Things change all the time.  The business landscape changes.  Technologies change. Rules and regulations change. Attitudes and trends change in buying, selling, marketing etc

And right now, almost everything that we know has changed, is changing or will change.

So, we cannot fear change, we cannot run from change.  We must accept change, embrace it and use change to our advantage.

I am always telling my clients that change invariably brings opportunity.  As business owners we need to be seeking out those opportunities and not just focusing on the threats that change is bringing to us.

So, it is a mindset shift that may be needed – a mindset shift to match and to counter the paradigm shift that many of us are facing.  We need to ensure that we are looking at things with a causative mind, rather than allowing ourselves to be on the effect end of things.  We need to be looking at things with an attitude not of “How are we going to survive through this?”, but “How are we going to thrive through this?”

What can we do, what must we do, to ensure that we grow through this time and come out the other side with a stronger, leaner business?  What opportunities are there that we can build into our model and take advantage of.

Because when things start moving and the economy begins to flourish again, which it will, the ones who have come through these times the strongest and seized the opportunities to be found, will be the ones who pick up the business.  Because others, those business owners who have not approached things with a causative mindset, will have fallen by the wayside or will not be in a position to pick up the business.

So how does cheese come into this?

Well my best advice to anyone for dealing with change is to read Dr Spencer Johnson’s excellent book “Who Moved My Cheese?”

If you have read it before, read it again – or listen to it on a platform such as Audible.

It is a short fable (it can be read in an hour) that tells the story of how four characters each react to the loss of their favourite food – cheese.  How they individually deal with this change in their lives is a metaphor for how we can react to changing situations and get the most out of them.

The conclusion of the book, as I have covered earlier is simply this:

Change is inevitable.  Anticipate it, adapt to it, learn to embrace and enjoy it. Do so and you won’t just suffer less stress and unhappiness, you’ll enjoy more success and fulfilment in every part of your life and your work.

So, if you feel that your cheese has been moved, is being moved, or is going to be moved now is a good time to read the book and learn how you are best to deal with it.

Perhaps then, cheese is indeed the solution to many of the issues your business may face due to the current coronavirus situation
